Chinese Calligraphy and Painting
Calligraphy and traditional Chinese painting together represent the highest spiritual standard of Chinese art. In China, there is a creative concept that calligraphy and painting share the same origin. Due to its abstraction and purity, calligraphy is viewed as the supreme expression of Chinese art. It communicates the laws of the universe, such as the idea of "following nature," and embodies the humanistic spirit through simple black-and-white lines. Additionally, it conveys the vitality and emotions of the creator through "vivid spirit and charm." Traditional Chinese painting became increasingly popular among scholars after the Song Dynasty. Chinese painting encourages the use of calligraphic techniques in its execution. Therefore, if the calligraphy is not well-executed, the quality of the Chinese painting will also suffer.

What My Students Say ?
Fantastic teacher and a great person!
I have had two trips to China this year (summer for a month and winter for 2 weeks) and both times I had almost daily Mandarin lessons with Becky. I felt that my level improved greatly after both trips. Becky has a very patient manner, is very friendly, knowledgeable, and her lessons are always interesting - with challenges at just the right level. I would highly recommend her - and I personally can't wait to get back to continue our lessons!

Awesome teacher
Becky is a caring teacher who really takes her job seriously. She tries to find the best and most effective way to teach each individual student, understanding that every student’s learning style is different. She shares her thoughts and life openly, is just as much friend as she is teacher. Strongly recommend studying with her.

Amazing, great fun, hightly recommended
I enjoyed Becky's lessons so much. I have been struggling to learn basic Mandarin for more than one year. Becky brings Mandarin to life and is incredibly patient. She makes learning fun. Now that my mandarin is improving i can enjoy speaking to people, and this motivates me to learn even harder. Xie xie Becky!

Highly Recommended
Becky is a very enthusiastic teacher who has excellent teaching instincts. It is obvious that she enjoys teaching and that in turn the students enjoy her lessons. Her explanations are very clear, she is very reliable and hardworking and she has developed a wide range of materials that are of great benefit to her students. I would highly recommend her as a teacher.

Excellent!
As a high-level learner, it’s not easy to find a capable teacher who can help me with my fossilized errors, but Becky was able to suggest ways for me to improve. I had a lot of fun in her lessons, but I also always finished the class with my brain fried as it was actually a lot of work! I’m planning to keep working with her even when I’m not in China and have my lessons online! Highly recommended to every level!

Personalized Chinese language lessons
I recently had 10 one hour private lessons in Chinese with a lovely young woman by the first name of Becky. She came to the Yangshuo Traditional Tai Chi School once per week for me as well as for a few of the other students. Becky was very attentive to my lack of understanding. We began by learning single words that I wanted to know so as to get around town easily. From there she taught me the Pinyin form of Chinese, the tones, and proper sentence structures. I have learned quite a lot in the short time in which she was my teacher. It has been much easier for me to get around now knowing how to ask for and direct a taxi to where I wish to go, ask for the bill or the toilet in a restaurant, change large notes for smaller notes at the bank, etc. I would recommend Becky to anyone interested in learning the Chinese Language in a heart beat! She is very personable, quite compassionate and has a great sense of humor. So I would say that you need look no further and give Becky a call. You won’t regret it! Cheers!

Learn Chinese with a fantastic teacher in the best city in China!
"I have been taking Chinese lessons with Becky off and on for 9 years. I have had many lessons with her, both as a younger traveler learning survival Chinese and as an experienced speaker discussing advanced topics. As a teacher, she is as good as it gets. She has 9 years of experience teaching foreigners of all backgrounds. She tailors her lesson plans to your specific needs and skill level. As an individual, she is enthusiastic and personable. She has a strong intellectual curiosity that makes her a great conversationalist. We have had long discussions on everything from Chinese calligraphy to cryptocurrency ICOs to traditional foot massage. Furthermore she is a long time Yangshuo resident with the very best tips on restaurants, activities, and local culture. Whether you are in town for a few days looking for a fun cultural activity or you are looking for a full immersion language experience (I have been to Yangshuo for both), Becky has my highest recommendation. Xie xie Becky!
