Mandarin Chinese Textbooks

I’ve tried many textbooks during the past ten years, and I think textbooks from the Beijing Language and Culture University Press are the best. Beijing Language and Culture University Press is a leading publisher of Chinese language textbooks and learning materials. Their publications are widely used in universities and language schools worldwide and are renowned for their quality and effectiveness. And I personally used New Practical Chinese Reader and HSK Standard Course the most.

HSK Standard Course is a series of textbooks designed to help learners prepare for the HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) proficiency test. The series covers all six test levels and includes comprehensive vocabulary lists, grammar explanations, and sample test questions. The content of these books is more focused on topics in work.

New Practical Chinese Reader is another popular series of Chinese language textbooks from Beijing Language and Culture University Press. The series is designed for beginners and covers basic vocabulary, grammar, and sentence patterns. It also includes exercises and activities to help learners practice what they have learned. And these books are more focused on campus life.

However, when you reach an intermediate level, I suggest you do not use textbooks, instead use materials prepared for native speakers. The benefit of this is that the vocabulary and expressions you learn will be closer to those used by native speakers. Moreover, if a textbook was published five to ten years ago, the topics and vocabulary may be too outdated to keep up with the times. I also create learning materials and video lessons for learning Chinese based on the latest information in China, just wait, they are on their way…
